When a massive acrylic panel for Syracuse’s new Harborview Aquarium needed to travel from Italy to the United States, crossing the Atlantic was only the first step.
Measuring approximately 29 feet long by 20 feet wide and 17 inches thick, the panel was too large for a conventional over-the-road move once it arrived in the United States. Its size and weight created significant height, width and clearance challenges, while its specialized construction demanded careful handling and protection throughout the journey.
The project came to Mohawk Global through Hueber-Breuer Construction, the aquarium’s general contractor. Mohawk Global’s Italy team joined the effort early, coordinating with the manufacturer, reviewing documentation and helping resolve challenges involved in moving the panel from the production facility to the port.
After the international transportation was complete, the team faced the next major question: How could the panel travel from the NY/NJ Port to Syracuse?
