Due to Department Homeland Security (DHS) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) security policy changes, effective October 3, all Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) Secure Data Portal account passwords will require a minimum of 15-characters.

This new requirement will be enforced as of Oct 3, when the customs broker’s or freight forwarder’s current 12-character password expires or when the ACE user manually changes its password, according to a CSMS message.

The new rules state that ACE Portal account passwords must:

  • Contain at least 15 characters.
  • Contain at least 2 letters.
  • Contain a combination of uppercase letters, lowercase letters, and numbers.
  • Contain at least one of the following symbols: ! ” # $ % & ‘ ( ) * + , – . / : ; < = > ? @ [ ] ; ^ _ ` { | } ~

Note that the new password cannot contain the User Id, an individual’s first or last name, any consecutively repeated characters, the same as a previously used password, or the reverse of a previously used password.

After changing the password, CBP will send a confirmation message that states, “Your password change was successful. Please close all browser sessions, and load a new browser session to log in.”
