The Hong Kong Civil Aviation Department has announced a new X-ray screening requirement for air cargo moving through Hong Kong, which will be implemented in four phases. The final phase will require that all air cargo moving through Hong Kong be screened by June 30, 2021.
The following is the scheduled roll-out.
|Transition Phase||Duration Period||% of Cargoes (by weight) required to be screened|
|Phase 1||Jan 2020 – April 2020||25%|
|Phase 2||May 2020 – Aug 2020||40%|
|Phase 3||Sept 2020 – Feb 2021||70%|
|Phase 4||March 2021 – June 2021||100%|
The first phase of air cargo screening has been implemented, as of January 1, 2020. This means that 25% of all air cargo shipments moving through Hong Kong will be subject to security screening.
Shippers will be charged a screening cost, based on the shipment’s incoterms rule. If you have questions, please reach out to your Mohawk Global customer service representative.
