As we continue to work through the COVID-19 disruption with our European partners, the prediction is that other Western European countries are only 1-2 weeks behind Italy—in developing similar social and economic challenges.
Some key updates include:
- Germany has closed its borders for travel, along with other European countries. As of now, ports are still open, and cargo is still moving.
- U.S. has added Ireland and U.K. to the passenger travel ban, which further limits air capacity.
- There are reports of trucks lined up for 100 kilometers at the Italian border, with drivers reporting waits over 24 hours to go through coronavirus check points. We predict delays like this will continue to disturb the movement of cargo through Europe. (See image below of trucks lined up at the Italian border).
