Since the beginning of the protests in Hong Kong, we have been closely watching for signs of a larger impact on the movement of freight in and out of the area.
Today, the Hong Kong Airport Authority announced that due to the protests, all passenger flights departing Hong Kong on Monday 8/12 have been cancelled as of 4:00 PM HKT. Freighter services are still running as scheduled at this time.
While today’s cancelled flights should have limited impact on cargo currently moving, they do represent an escalation of the protest’s potential to impact commercial traffic. This is a good indicator that continued unrest could lead to more significant disruptions.
Mohawk will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as the situation unfolds. If Mohawk handles your cargo and it is impacted by these protests or cancellations, your local Mohawk office will contact you directly.
