Heavy rainfall and flooding in India have brought road and rail transportation to a standstill in certain regions. A recent deep depression over Saurashtra and Kachchh brought strong winds—reaching 35-45 knots—and heavy rain. This severe weather has prompted Mundra Port to suspend berthing and unberthing of vessels. Additionally, single point mooring and ship-to-ship operations have been halted, and vessels at berth and anchor are on high alert.

A deep depression that can intensify into a cyclonic storm, in August, is a rare event. India’s weather office has emphasized its unpredictability. Given the situation’s severity, Mundra Port’s proactive measures aim to minimize potential disruptions to transportation and trade.

“The floods in Gujarat have caused significant disruptions to transportation of goods and essential services. Our teams are working hard to navigate these challenges, but we recognize the hardship faced by affected communities. We remain committed to delivering solutions and ensuring recovery with compassion,” Sabri Aminuddin, Route Development Manager, South Asia.
