At Mohawk Global, we believe that small acts of care can take root and grow into lasting change. This fall, our team spent a day in Buffalo doing just that—planting pawpaw trees, a native, fruit-bearing species, to help bring new life and nourishment to a neighborhood on the rise.
The planting took place in partnership with Grassroots Gardens WNY, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping communities create and sustain gardens and green spaces. The chosen site, located near a future public square, was selected for its strong potential for long-term care. The neighborhood is home to many young families—including several New American families—and already boasts an active gardening community eager to help the trees thrive.
A Day of Growth and Connection
Together with local residents, our volunteers planted four pawpaw trees — each one a symbol of growth, collaboration, and hope for the future. Neighbors joined in the effort, learning about the trees’ unique qualities and even enjoying a pawpaw bread tasting, celebrating the fruit’s rich flavor and imagining how future harvests could bring fresh, local food to their tables.
“This initiative reflects our commitment to creating meaningful, long-term impact in the communities where we live and work,” said Gar Grannell, CEO & Chairman of Mohawk Global. “By planting pawpaw trees, we’re not only adding beauty and sustainability to the neighborhood but also providing a source of fresh, native fruit for local families for years to come.”
Growing Partnerships, Growing Hope
The Buffalo project is the latest chapter in Mohawk Global’s Sowing Kindness initiative—our company-wide effort to support food security, sustainability, and community engagement across the regions where our people live and work.
Next spring, Mohawk Global will once again partner with Grassroots Gardens WNY to renovate a local school garden, giving students hands-on gardening experiences while addressing food insecurity and promoting healthy eating habits.
“Community-driven projects that improve public spaces across Western New York are at the core of Grassroots Gardens’ work,” said Timothy Chen, Executive Director of Grassroots Gardens WNY. “We’re so grateful for Mohawk Global’s continued friendship and for putting their values into action through projects like these—they amplify our mission to support neighbors improving their neighborhood’s environmental health and access to healthy food.”
From raised-bed gardens to pawpaw trees, our partnership with Grassroots Gardens WNY continues to grow deeper roots—uniting people, strengthening neighborhoods, and helping communities across Western New York flourish.
