Following the release of the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) on July 1, 2020, a series of Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) updates were released that directly impact the importation of safety and medical masks.

In the HTS Revision 14, plastic material masks and face shields now have an HTS of their own. Instead of using HTS 3926.90.9990, importers must use 3926.90.9950—Face masks and shields, medical positioning or transport pads, medical waste containers or disinfectant wipes dispensers—and “other” for plastic articles has been updated to 3926.90.9985. The HTS code 3926.90.9990 is now discontinued.

New tariffs have also been added to 6307.90.98XX to provide specific classifications for textile based N95 and other respirators, as well as other textile face masks—non-disposable and disposable.
