Canada will eliminate all tariffs on US goods covered by the Canada-US-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA) starting September 1.

The move comes as Canada continues negotiations with the US on a broader trade framework. While tariffs will remain in place on steel, aluminum, and autos, Canada emphasized that the decision is meant to protect the competitiveness of Canadian businesses while reinforcing the value of its trade pact with the US.

Despite an ongoing trade dispute—where US duties still apply to Canadian steel, aluminum, autos, copper, and energy—85 percent of bilateral trade flows tariff-free.

“As we work to address outstanding trade issues with the US, it is important we do everything we can to preserve this unique advantage for Canadian workers and their families,” Prime Minister Mark Carney said.
