UPDATE: 6/12/2024— PSAC members have decided not to strike after the union announced they reached a tentative contract agreement with CBSA.
Details of the agreement are expected to be released on Thursday, June 13—members are being told. Union members will still need to vote to ratify and finalize the deal. Mohawk Global will continue to monitor these developments and provide updates as we receive them.
More than 9,000 Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) members who work for the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) have secured a strike mandate. Mediation begins June 3 and the CBSA could be in a position to strike as of June 6.
If the CBSA strikes, this will cause a major disruption at land border crossings, airports, and marine ports, which will significantly impact Canada’s supply chain.
CBSA front-line officers are designated as essential, which means they cannot stop working, however, they can implement tactics that could significantly slow down the process of commercial shipments entering Canada.
Companies involved with importing goods into Canada need to be prepared for the potential slowdown of commercial shipments entering Canada, if the CBSA chooses to strike on June 6. Mohawk Global will continue to monitor these developments and provide updates as we receive them.
