President Trump has signed a new proclamation delaying planned Section 232 tariff increases on certain home furnishing imports, such as upholstered furniture, kitchen cabinets, and vanities.
Signed on December 31, 2025, the proclamation postpones the implementation of higher tariffs for an additional year. Under the prior proclamation issued on September 29, 2025, the increased Section 232 duties were scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2026. That increase will now be deferred until January 1, 2027.
Although the planned tariff increase has been postponed, current duties remain in effect. Imports of certain upholstered furniture, kitchen cabinets, and vanities continue to be subject to a 25% Section 232 tariff under the prior proclamation.
The administration has not announced any changes to the scope of products subject to the current tariff, nor has it indicated whether additional modifications could occur before the new effective date.
The one-year postponement gives importers more time to reassess sourcing strategies, pricing models, and supply chain planning. Still, the ongoing 25% tariff continues to place cost pressure on affected products, especially for businesses that depend on imports for residential and commercial construction.
