The Northwest Seaport Alliance, which oversees management of the Tacoma and Seattle Ports, has announced an Excess Dwell Fee that takes effect on November 15. However, there are notable differences in the timing, structure, and application of these fees, compared to the Los Angeles/Long Beach Excess Dwell Fees that have been seen.

Please see the below criteria and details for the Seattle/Tacoma Excess Dwell Fee:

  • Applicability: Any container which has remained in Seattle/Tacoma terminals beyond fifteen (15) days will be subject to the fee. On Day 16, the fee is applied. However, it is a one-time fee and does not accrue or escalate daily.
  • Amount: The amount will be $310 per container in Seattle, and $315 per container in Tacoma.
  • Collection: The fee will be applied at the terminal gate and must be settled before the container will be released from terminal.

The fee will not be assessed on intermodal containers moving through the Seattle/Tacoma rail to inland IPI points. It will only apply to local containers delivering out of the terminals via truck. Please reach out to your Mohawk Global representative with questions.
