The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has withdrawn accreditation from four China-based consumer product testing laboratories after determining their test results could not be relied upon to verify compliance with US safety standards.
Third-party testing is a critical requirement for many regulated products, particularly children’s products, which must be supported by valid test reports and certifications before entering the US market. The CPSC’s review found that the affected laboratories issued unreliable test reports and failed to meet required accreditation standards, prompting the agency to immediately revoke their acceptance.
As a result, any product certifications based on testing from these laboratories are no longer valid. Importers that previously relied on these labs may be required to re-test products through a CPSC-accepted laboratory and obtain updated certifications to maintain compliance.
Importers are advised to work closely with their trade partners and laboratories to ensure all required consumer product testing is completed by a reputable lab. Clients with questions about potential exposure, re-testing requirements, or next steps are encouraged to reach out to their Mohawk Global representative for guidance and support.
