Mohawk was a finalist for UnitedHealthcare’s Healthy Workplace Awards last month. The awards honor local Central New York companies that promote a work environment that encourages healthy living among employees.

The company placed second in its category (private company, 51-99) due to its extensive employee wellness program, put in place five years ago. With the goal of encouraging staff to lead a more active lifestyle, the wellness program has spawned staff favorites like a 10,000 steps a day walking initiative, biggest loser contest, and periodic chair massages for stress management.

2012 is the also the second year in a row that Mohawk has received the distinction of being a “Gold Fit-Friendly Worksite” by the American Heart Association. The award recognizes employers who go above and beyond when it comes to their employees’ health.
