UPDATE: 8/24/20—The C.U.P.E and the MEA have come to an agreement, as of Friday, August 21, 2020. This agreement ends the 11-day strike at the Port of Montreal and will last until March 2021.

The August 10, strike at the Port of Montreal has been ongoing with no end-date in sight. Luckily, on Thursday, August 20, the port and union came to a partial agreement to, “move containers that contain controlled substances and COVID-19-related merchandise and to unload a ship containing sugar,” the Maritime Employers Association (MEA) announced. The other containers will be, “studied one at time, in order to judge their urgency,” according to the Canadian Union of Public Employees (C.U.P.E.). There has been no indication of when they will begin to move these containers.

We will continue to monitor this situation and offer updates as they become available. In the meantime, delays are expected. If Mohawk Global handles your cargo and it is impacted by this strike, your local office will contact you directly.
