Union Pacific Railroad (UP) has announced that it will halt all international intermodal services from the West Coast to Chicago for seven days beginning Monday, July 19. The logic behind this move is to relieve significant congestion at the inland intermodal terminals, though the move will certainly cause more short-term pain for shippers to the Midwest.
Reservations already obtained will be honored but no new reservations will be allowed from the ports of Los Angeles, Long Beach, Oakland, and Tacoma.
Delays are expected. We advise clients to focus on schedules that transport freight to U.S. ocean ports and then let us help transload and truck your freight inland by utilizing our strong domestic partners.
